The short answer

Report your illness to the employment agency and the hirer in accordance with the applicable reporting procedure. Then make a distinction between continued payment of wages during a current contract and a possible Sickness Benefits Act benefit after the agreed end date. Different rules and principles apply to this.

Which hours and wages count?

Equivalent employment conditions and the usual salary play a role in an ongoing placement. If no clear scope of work has been agreed or you structurally work differently, Article 29 contains an arrangement with average paid hours over thirteen calendar weeks. Simple incidental overtime and structural overtime are not treated equally. Request a calculation with the weeks, hours and wage components used.

Your contract ends while you are ill

Reporting sick is not the same as reaching a previously agreed end date. When a contract expires, a Sickness Benefits Assessment may be necessary. Article 29 is supplemented under certain conditions after the end of a contract in phase A/1–2. This is linked to the daily wage benefit. Don't confuse that with a percentage of each amount on your last pay slip; UWV and the agency each have their own role.

This is how you check it

  1. Save your sick report and the written response from the agency.
  2. Collect your contract and pay slips from the weeks before you reported sick.
  3. Ask about basis, hours, end of contract and possible notification to UWV.
Practical example

Your contract states 24 hours, but you have been working longer hours for a longer period of time. In case of illness, ask explicitly how the paid hours before reporting sick were included. Merely multiplying the contract line again may miss the relevant situation.

Questions about this CAO

Do I only have to report sick to my manager?

Also inform the employment agency. The agency is your employer and must be able to process the sick report.

Does my contract automatically end due to illness?

Reporting sick does not automatically terminate the agreement. Check the agreed end date and have a termination explained separately.

Who will assess my medical situation?

The company doctor assesses resilience in the absenteeism process; UWV may play a role in a benefit. You don't have to put a diagnosis on a salary calculation.

Where can I ask for help with missing wages?

Ask the agency for a specification. SNCU can explain collective labor agreements; In the event of an individual dispute, the trade union can also help.
