The short answer

A busy week cannot automatically be paid for overtime under the catering collective labor agreement. The agreed working hours and reference period are important. Determined additional and overtime hours are in principle compensated on a one-to-one basis with paid time off.

Look at the balance for the correct period

The normal full-time working hours are 1,976 hours per year, an average of 38 hours per week. For part-time, first compare with your own agreed working hours. Additional hours and overtime are not the same category. Ask which reference period your employer uses and how hours worked, leave and compensation already taken are included in the balance. One single working week does not provide a complete annual statement.

When will payment take place?

KHN explains that the additional and overtime hours calculated after one year must be compensated in free time no later than three months after the reference period. If time-for-time for determined overtime is not possible, payment will be made in accordance with the collective labor agreement at 100% of the hourly wage. That is the normal hourly wage, so 0% extra surcharge in a calculator. You must bring a more favorable individual appointment separately.

This is how you check it

  1. Save schedules and record actual hours worked.
  2. Request the balance and the start and end dates of the reference period.
  3. First check compensation in time and then any payment.
Practical example

Calculation example only for established, payable overtime: 8 hours × €16 = €128 gross. The allowance calculator includes 0% extra. If time-for-time still needs to be compensated, this is not an amount that is already due.

Questions about this CAO

Do I receive 150% as standard for catering overtime?

No. The collective labor agreement for overtime pay uses 100% of the hourly wage. Check whether you have a more favorable appointment.

Are additional hours for part-time the same as overtime?

Not always. Additional hours are above your contract size; the collective labor agreement also uses its own overtime definition. Keep the categories separate.

Can I demand immediate payment for each additional week?

This does not automatically follow from extra hours in one week. First, the arrangement regarding the reference period and compensation must be applied.

Can I also use this calculator for time-by-time?

The calculator shows monetary amounts. He does not determine whether the collective labor agreement first prescribes time off or when the balance must be settled.
